We will not be able to rise again until our collective mind formulates a vision of Armenian Karabakh as a national dream.

To ensure that 2 September – the 33rd anniversary of the proclamation of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic – does not become a day of lamentation, mourning, empty discussions or songs and dances about the lost homeland, a number of messages need to be clearly formulated. According to Vahe Hovhannisyan, a member of the Alternative Projects group, ‘there can be no politics in Armenia as long as the issue of Armenian Nagorno-Karabakh is not on the political agenda, there can be no respectful negotiations with Armenia as long as the issue of Armenian Nagorno-Karabakh is not on the negotiating agenda.

There can be no ‘respectable’ as long as we are in this state, there can be no ‘leader’ who does not believe in Armenian Nagorno-Karabakh.

We will not be able to rise again until our collective mind formulates a vision of Armenian Karabakh as a national dream. We will not be taken seriously until we have rational, coldly calculated programmes on how to realise this dream, on how to transform this dream into a rational programme.

The current international situation and Yerevan’s vital interests require Armenia to put the question of Armenian Nagorno-Karabakh back on the agenda.

We have no right to speak of dignity as long as we tolerate the power that has brought us to where we are.

We will not be able to enjoy ordinary, everyday happiness at luxurious tables, in expensive clothes and amidst accumulated wealth as long as there are Armenian sons in Baku prisons and the Armenian people are in such a deplorable state.
