Azerbaijan has accused the military-political leadership of the occupied Republic of Artsakh of ‘destroying historical and cultural monuments’. This was announced by the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan, Kyamran Aliyev.
He also added that all the rights of those arrested were ‘protected’ and that each of them had several lawyers.
‘Each of them has the right to see the documents relating to the case’, said Mr Aliyev.
The General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan has initiated criminal proceedings against 15 former military and political leaders of the occupied Republic of Artsakh. Following Azerbaijan’s massive military aggression against the Republic of Artsakh in September 2023, they were illegally detained and taken to Baku. They are charged with ‘terrorism, financing terrorism, establishing armed formations and groups not provided for by law, and conducting exercises for the purpose of terrorism’.
The former Presidents of Artsakh: Arkady Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan and Araik Harutinyan, as well as the Speaker of the National Assembly David Ishkhanyan, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs David Babayan, the former Minister of Defence Levon Mnatsakanyan, the former Minister of State Ruben Vardanyan and the former Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces David Manukyan are currently being held illegally in Baku.
